FS PRIMARY
At primary level, students develop key skills in literacy, numeracy and respect for others. Our progressive yet demanding teaching methods prioritise proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics, essential foundations for the next steps in your child’s education.
They will benefit from our Immersive Bilingual programme (BIM).

Your child will also be exposed to Chinese culture and language (Simplified Chinese, Mandarin dialect) throughout their time at FIS.
And they can choose to improve their knowledge in this area through an extracurricular activity (ECA). For our youngest students and beginners, FIS offers workshops to improve spoken language and expressions used in day-to-day life. More advanced learners (YCT2 – YCT6) and native speakers (with at least one Chinese-speaking parent) can attend two sessions a week to improve their writing and speaking skills.
We help students develop shared knowledge skills & culture on 5 key aspects
1. LANGUAGE FOR THINKING AND COMMMUNICATING: including French language skills, learning a modern foreign language and introducing artistic, mathematical, scientific and IT language.

2. LEARNING TOOLS AND METHODS: including teamwork and group work, organising working time, using digital tools, researching and checking information.

3. DEVELOPING AS A PERSON AND A CITIZEN: including class participation, taking part in the school community and learning about sustainable development.

LANGUAGE OFFERS
IMMERSIVE BILINGUAL PROGRAMME - BIM
The immersive bilingual program is a bilingual pathway. Teaching of the French national education curriculum is shared between the two languages, French and English. Among the various modalities, joint co-teaching sessions are conducted by teachers in English and teachers in French. Moreover, our students benefit from interactions with their classmates from the International Stream.
Out of 26 hours of instruction, 6 hours and 45 minutes are delivered in English or in both languages.

THE ADVANTAGES OF BIM:
-
Coexistence of the two languages every day.
-
A significant amount of time spent in co-teaching.
-
Formalized meetings to ensure consistency between French and English lessons.
-
The English teacher teaches in a whole class and half group setting.
-
Extra English support is given to students who require it (in small groups).
-
For the students who are less Francophone or more Anglophone, it’s the preferred stream as the distribution of hours allows for more consolidation of French skills.
